The Inspired Mind of Zaha Hadid

World-renowned architect and designer Zaha Hadid is known for her dazzling forms that defy expectations, and for her dynamic approach to design—one that matched her vivacious personality. In 2008, Hadid was announced as the winner of an international competition to design a new art museum on the campus of Michigan State University.

In 2022, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University commemorated its 10th anniversary with an exhibition celebrating the magnificent work and legacy of Zaha Hadid. Zaha Hadid: Untold presented a design-focused retrospective that explores Hadid’s pioneering vision, and showcases the incredible range of her work and relentless pursuit of perfection. The largest and most comprehensive presentation of the work of Zaha Hadid Design to date, it presented an unparalleled opportunity to be completely immersed in the mind-bending brilliance of one of the most influential creative thinkers of our time as the exhibition occupied all 10,000 square feet of gallery space.

To do this, the museum acquired a significant number of Zaha Hadid Design works. MSU is now not only home to only the first stand-alone Zaha Hadid-designed building in the United States, but also the largest Zaha Hadid Design collection in North America.

Relive the exhibition through a conversation with Woody Yao and Maha Kutay, co-directors at Zaha Hadid Design.

Rotating selections of the massive Zaha Hadid Design collection will continue to be on view at the MSU Broad Art Museum.

Thanks to PBS, you can also embark on a journey through the inspiring architectural masterpiece that is the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. Craig Kiner, associate director at Zaha Hadid Architects, shares the inspiration behind Hadid’s visionary design in this WKAR Special.
